CORE VALUES

What are Core Values?
Core values are different from our mission and philosophy of ministry.  To understand it better, we use the following analogy.  River Valley Ranch is on a journey to further God's kingdom here on earth.  The journey involves three components:  1) a destination; 2) a map; 3) a means to get there.  The destination, or ultimate goal is our mission.  Our map, or path that guides and keeps us on track to our destination, is our philosophy of ministry. The means by which we get there, or our daily mode of transportation, is our set of core values.

History of our Core Values:
In September of 2010, the RVR staff took our annual staff retreat to focus exclusively on determining what our core values might be.  We spent several days praying through and wrestling with the values RVR should adopt.  Through prayer and lively discussion, we narrowed down our total list of values from about 50 to the 13 you see below.  We felt these not only reflect the current values of RVR employees, but ones that represent those who have served at the Ranch over our nearly 60 year history.  We believe these will help us evaluate our work performance on a daily basis while serving at RVR.

Core Values Mosaic

All RVR staff will commit to pursue the following 13 values in order to effectively fulfill the Ranch’s mission:

Growth – Commit to growing spiritually, personally, and professionally. Actively seek to fulfill our God given potential through personal challenge.(Prov 3:13, Prov 16:22, James 1:5, Hos 4:62,  Peter 3:18, Prov 18:2, Prov 19:2)

Encouragement – Look for ways to build up, give hope, and inspire others to love and good deeds. (Hebrews 10:24, Gal 6:10, Prov 11:25, John 13:14-15, Rom.12:10-13, Hebr.13:16)

Community - Build authentic long-term relationships in the context of a loving community.  Strive for unity. (Heb 10:25, Acts 2:46, Eph 4:3, Col 3:14)

Fun – Adopt a joyful spirit, celebrate life, and be adventurous (Ps 16:11, John 15:11, Ecc 2:24, Matt 25:21, Phil 4:4)

Service – Seek ways to fulfill others’ needs (note plural possessive apostrophe) ahead of our own, particularly the “least of these”.  (Phil 2:1-11, Acts 20:35, 1 Cor 10:24, Prov 11:25, Prov 22:9, Acts 20:35, Matt 25:25-40, Acts 20:35)

Authenticity- Be who we say we are and encourage others to do the same. Have steadfast adherence to being both honest and doing what is right.  (Titus 2:7, 2 Tim 3:5, Prov 11:1, Prov 22:1, Hebr.13:18, Eph.5:8-9, I John 1:7)

Initiative- See what needs to be done and do it. Take personal ownership not only in our work environment but in the entire Ranch. (Prov 6:6-8, Prov 10:4, Prov 14:23, Neh 2:18)

Accountability – Commit to having a teachable heart when confronted. Be willing to humbly confront one another when necessary. (Prov 9:9, Prov 27:17, Prov 8:32-24, Prov 19:11, Prov 12:1, Prov 13:10)

Submission - Adopt an attitude of humility. Submit our wills to God, to those in authority over us, and to each other. (Titus 3:1, Eph 5:21, Prov 22:4. Prov 11:2, Rom.12:3, Phil.2:3-4)

Excellence – Strive for the highest standards in all aspects of our jobs. (Matt 5:41. Eph 3:20, Col 3:23, Isaiah 9:7b)

Stewardship – Be faithful with the resources God has entrusted to us. (Luke 16:10, 11, 1 Cor 4:2)

Gratitude – Adopt an attitude of gratitude.  Express appreciation to those who support us, to one another, and to the Lord. (Col. 1:3, Eph. 2:1, Col 3:16, Col 4:2, Psalm 92:1)

Faith – In every situation, acknowledge that God is in control and working for our good. In all decisions seek God and trust His will be done. Be willing to take risks. (Phil 1:6, Rom 8:28, Heb 11:1, Heb 11:6, Prov 16:3)
